Biology and Pathology of the Malaria Parasite
16 – 18 May
2011
EMBL Heidelberg, Germany
The scientific aims
of the network are to address, in an integrated, collaborative manner, fundamental
questions of the biology of the malaria parasite, its vector, and the disease,
allowing optimal exploitation of the resulting knowledge to impact on public
health.
This will be the 7th BioMalPar conference all of which have taken place at EMBL
Heidelberg. However this meeting is sponsored by the European Network
of Excellence, EVIMalaR. EVIMalaR is a new malaria research network that
whilst distinct from BioMalPar seeks to continue some of the best BioMalPar
initiatives, this meeting being one. EVIMalaR consists of 42 partner laboratories
in 33 institutions from 9 European and from 4 principally African malaria endemic
countries (Sudan, Uganda, Nigeria, and Cameroon) and one Indian institute. The
Australian Malaria Research Network also enjoys full membership. EVIMalaR
also comprises 12 European and 1 African affiliated partner.
The purpose of the BioMalPar annual conference is to bring together malaria
researchers from Europe and overseas (including Africa, America, Asia and Australia)
in order to present and share recent groundbreaking findings on fundamental
malaria research. New insights will also be featured through the use of poster
sessions. This meeting will also provide an enriched environment for researchers
at all stages of their career to interact with international leaders in the
field. The meeting will offer an excellent opportunity for sharing ideas and
for potential development of new worldwide collaborations.

8th International Symposium on Fish Parasites (ISFP)
26
– 30 September 2011
Viña del Mar, Chile
As decided in the
last ISFP (International Symposium on Fish Parasites), the 8th ISFP will be
held in Viña del Mar Chile, from the 26 th to the30th of September, 2011.
All ichthyoparasitologists around the world are invited to join our community
in this beautiful city with exceptional facilities, beautiful beaches, excellent
seafood, cafes, bars; and less than half an hour from Valle de Casablanca, one
of Chile’s finest and world renowned wine-producing regions.
Fish Parasites have an enormous impact not only in the environment but also
on important economic activities such as fish farming and fisheries. This Symposium
will be an important forum for the discussion and distribution of new findings
in this rapidly expanding field. The theme of the conference is “Fish parasitology:
from classical taxonomy to holistic approach”.
We hope to develop an exciting scientific program that will provide an update
in our field of research. We are sure that the diversity of themes in the dynamic
field of fish parasitology will be the most favourable platform for strong and
positive collaborations between fish parasitologists. We are planning an intense
program including preliminary talks, mini symposiums, and oral presentations.
